Instant Inspiration

One of my favorite things to do is listen to music. I would be absolutely lost without my MP3 player. I keep it with me all the time and whenever I have a free minute at work, in go the headphones and I enjoy a few stolen moments of peace.

That being said...anytime I feel like I've hit a wall with my writing I turn to my trusty little playlists that I build specifically for whatever manuscript I happen to be working on at the time.

Now it's no secret that I absolutely drool over The Vampire Diaries. I live for Thursday night in order to get my fix for the week. So of course when the new soundtrack for the hit series was released I of course had to have it. Even if you're not a fan of the show you should really check it out. Here's the list of songs included on the album:

1. Stefan’s Theme - Michael Suby
2. Running Up That Hill - Placebo
3. Currency of Love - Silversun Pickups
4. Hammock - Howls
5. Sleep Alone (909s in the DarkTimes Mix) - Bat for Lashes
6. Bloodstream (Vampire Diaries Remix) - Stateless
7. We Radiate - Goldfrapp
8. Obsession - Sky Ferreira
9. Head Over Heels - Digital Daggers
10. Down - Jason Walker
11. Beauty of the Dark - Mads Langer
12. Cut - Plumb
13. All You Wanted - Sounds Under Radio featuring Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy
14. The Fellowship - Smashing Pumpkins
15. On Melancholy Hill (Feed Me Remix) - Gorillaz

I can't tell you how fantastic this soundtrack is. Just look at the cover for goodness sake! But don't take my word for it...to sample the tracks for yourself visit Amazon.com here.

Enjoy and Happy Writing!

Thanks for the music info.

I love listening to music when I'm writing. Certain songs pop out during shuffle that become the soundtrack to my WIP.

I'm weird. I can't equate music with writing. Probably because I get too into the music and then can't concentrate. Maybe I should try instrumentals.

I keep seeing good things being posted about this show everywhere. I've watched the frist couple of episodes, but never got beyond that. It just didn't grab me. Maybe I need to give it a second chance.

I don't know any of the songs except the Goldfrapp one! That's bad, isn't it. I wish I could write with music on, but sadly... not.

Music is quite amazing like that. Characters, settings, even sometimes full stories have a song or multiple songs associated with it. Definitely my inspiration. Thanks for sharing the soundtrack, I'll have to check it out. :)

Yay for people who write/are inspired by music. I've found entire plotlines through songs. So much inspiration there. ;)

Happy writing!

Oooh, that does sound like an awesome track! It's funny how something as simple as a song can transport you. Oh, and I am TOTALLY with you on the VD. I have to wait till friday to catch it on online streaming but it's a must for me.

That's a great idea to have a soundtrack for whatever novel you're working on. I'll have to think about that one. :)

Do I dare admit that I haven't heard of any of these songs? I'm feeling out of it.

But I love that you make a soundtrack. I had a theme song for my last book . . . it always took me to that world. Music is amazing!
