Misery Loves Company

I'm suffering from I don't know what in the world to write today...not in the sense that I've developed writer's block. Thank goodness that hasn't happened! I just for the life of me could not focus on one single blog topic. I think the problem is I have so much going on in my head right now that I can't keep it all straight.

Here's what I'm dealing with...

I'm editing and revising back and forth between two separate manuscripts. But I just received some awesome feedback from my fabulous beta Lindsay with some great ideas that I just have to incorporate in one of them.

I'm outlining a second installment for Radiant Fury. (gasp!) I know I'm changing my ways. Outlines are new for me, but I had so many ideas for this book that I had to get them organized. Please don't hold it against me!

I also have a growing pile of books to read glaring at me every time I walk past my dresser. Those are not going anywhere anytime soon.

In addition to all of this, a brand spanking shiny new idea has just sparked and has begun running rampant through my head. Dialogue has begun and continues even when I arrive at work. This causes sidelong glances from my colleagues when they ask me a question and I just stare at them. But I'm not complaining . I figure it's better than the alternative. I'd rather be overrun with ideas and work than have my drive and creativity completely dry up.

How is this a problem? It's not really, but in one day alone here are a couple of the blunders I executed that caused those around me to question my sanity:

I ran off copies at the office and left them in the workroom. Just waltzed right back to my room without them. (Another teacher had to bring them to me.)

Had someone else ask me for something that was right in front of my face and I told her I had no idea what she was talking about.

Oh yes and my personal favorite, I couldn't find my favorite pen for the longest time, swore my kids were messing with me only to discover that it was stuck in my ponytail when I got home. This of course was after I had run errands all over town.

Yep it's a good thing my head is firmly attached or I would lose that too. So my plans for the weekend are very simple...I'm finishing revisions and concentrating on one thing at a time. I'll let you know how that works out for me!

How do all of you lovely people keep it together? Am I the only maniac running around like a crazy person? Feel free to lay it all on the line in your comment. I so love company in my crazy corner of the blogoshpere!

Don't worry - you're not alone. I have days where I just seem to be on another planet.
Sounds like you have a lot of great things going for you as well, though! That's awesome!
Hope today is better for you and hope you have a great weekend :).
Best,
Kelsey

You're never alone. You sound like you've been living my life lately. The only thing that's keeping me together?

Harry Potter release date next Thursday... midnight showing... pushing me to freedom!

Hang in there!

PS - Thanks for joining the blogfest! I'm super excited!

My life isn't neearly this exciting, or crazy. Heck, most of my time is eaten up at this soul sucking corporate day job. Sleep comes second.

You're not alone. At least you're dealing with too much though. You could have writer's block though and it'd be worse.

I can totally relate to the "new idea bugging you nonstop" thing. I'm in the middle of revisions myself, and other projects keep poking at me, saying, "Work on me! Work on me!" It's hard to tell them to put a lid on it, so I end up multitasking and feeling like my revisions are getting short-changed :)

Oh my goodness, you poor thing. So much going on in your writing life! It's funny how it bleeds into all things. Well, the only thing to do is to just dive in and get writing. Once you're focused on creation, I bet everything else will fall away. Then you'll become so focused that you will forget the copies, and become blind to all things, and forget to remove the penc...yeah. Never mind. A writer's life is always full of excitement...ha! :P

Good luck, chickie. Hoping it'll all come together for you soon!

I've never had these kinds of problems. You must be the only maniac ever. Also you don't strike me as a pantser whatsoever.

Yeah, you sound like me. At least I know that there are other people out there whose brains are fried! We can hold on for dear life together!

It's so exciting when you can see the light at the end of the revision tunnel. I'm still drafting, so I'm not there yet, but the head fog starts for me about middle when the climax is calling to me. I stare into space, don't hear somebody yelling beside my ear, and, yes, forget things everywhere.

You are not alone! P.S. I heart Lindsay's critiques, too. :)

Thank you for posting this, because it makes me think maybe I'm not as insane as I think I am. There may be more reasons than just a busy schedule and lots of children to explain why I can't keep anything straight ... darn novels! No, bless them. They are both my sanity and my insanity. :)

Hugs, hugs, hugs. But I had to laugh about the pen in the ponytail. I sat on mine the other day and couldn't find it. hee hee

You're not alone. It's crazy by its nature to have a demanding full time job and write. I know. I live it too.

Hiya Renae!

Thanks for visiting me over at my blog!

Well, I purchased about 6 books the 2 years and haven't read them. (Just don't tell my hubby because he helped me buy them). But I have every intention in reading them!

As far as capturing those illusive sparkling ideas, what I do is write them down as a first chapter, an idea outline, as a a--however it comes out--and I STASH it. I have a thick pile of hand-written summaries as well as saved in my hard drive.

Good luck with organizing your stuff, girl. Fantastic Friday Writers should have some kinda post on that, don't you think?

;)

I usually just space out. Sometimes it works, sometimes I just look like a dork.
