Back To Reality

That title has dual meaning for me this morning. First, I am going back to work after having three snow days in a row. (I have not left my house since Saturday.) Second, this post is my writing reality. At least for now.

So yesterday I gave you a sneak peek into the workings of my little dream world. Now today for those of you who need a good laugh, here's what my days actually look like:

My alarm blasts at five o'clock in the morning. I want to cry. I get up, thankful that I picked out my clothes the night before because now I don't have to think yet and everything will match. Yea me! I rush through getting ready. I have to at least slap on make-up or I'll scare the children.

Once presentable. I sit down at my laptop in the family room, kitchen, dining room...wherever I land. And wherever my power cord will reach. I have no writing space. I post a blog and visit as many as I can before my son hollers that we have to leave now! Yep, he is that responsible.

I go to work, try not to do anything socially awkward like phase out in the middle of a conversation or have my eyes glaze over during the lunchtime conversation because I have dialogue running through my head.

When I get off work, I go to the gym, daughters dance class, or my son's games. Then do all the other mommy stuff and get everything ready for the next day. When all of this is done, I sit down to my laptop, again wherever I can find a semi-quiet corner.

And I write.

I write about the few ideas I've scratched down throughout the day. I finish that chapter I've been working on. I start a new chapter. Whatever it is, I write. This is where the fate of my sleep will be decided. If the ideas come. I'll be up awhile. If not, I might get a little sleep. Just a little. But before I do that I also squeeze in some reading!

Then I get to get up and do it all over again. Yea!

So there you have it, my day. I'm tired just looking at it. This was not meant to be a venting session or a pity party. It is what it is, I love what I do and this is how I accomplish it.

So what about you? What does your day look like? I sincerely hope it looks more like the day I posted yesterday.

My day sounds like yours, except I work from home. There isn't much glam or "wow that's so interesting!" happening in daily life, or my writing space (which is just the kitchen table...)

In an odd twist on my normal days, I got my 2-year-old up at 4:30 this morning. That's specifically so she'll go down for a nap by the time I have to log on to a webinar at 11:00...I feel dirty as a mother, but on the other hand, she didn't seem to mind getting up :) My typical days are filled with grocery stores visits, household financial planning, home school for the 2-year-old, laundry, picking up the 15-year-old from track, driving the 15-year-old to youth group, making dinner, feeding the kiddos, and wondering why my husband drinks so much of the organic, non-hormone milk that I buy specifically for the children (seriously, you can't tell me that a 40-year-old man needs that much calcium).

You mean I'm not the only one who has a hard time keeping my eyes from glazing over in the middle of conversations?

What a relief!

You are an early riser! My mornings are crazy but I do have a reprieve in the afternoon when all three are at school.
They are off school today and yesterday, so not much writing getting done!

My day goes something like, get up and do a quick check to see if I have comments on my blog and to make sure my blog actually posted, then it's a mad dash to get ready and get out the door to my classes which last until about 3-4p.m. depending on the day. Then it's off to work where I...work (ha, ha) and sometimes blog and sometimes write, but usually do homework. Back to the dorm where I finish homework and either crash into bed, read for a bit, or write something. Busy day for me, but at least I'm not alone :)

I wish I had the will power to get up extra early to blog and write. But I cherish sleep. In high school I took early bird classes that started at 6:30AM. I remember how exhausted I was during those couple years.

I spend about ten to fifteen minutes blogging before I leave in the morning. I start blogging and writing soon after I get home at about 4:00PM.

Since I'm a substitute teacher, some days I don't get a job, so I have all day to write.

I don't even want to think about the whole thing at once. That would just freak me out!

Hugs for your packed days. I couldn't get up that early though. It hurts my head thinking about it. LOL.

I enjoyed reading about your perfect and imperfect worlds. Your perfect world - including the pics - sounds just like mine. Your real world is similar, too, except I run two companies from home. And I no longer get up so dang early. Ick. My kids have to be out the door by 6:45 and fortunately they're old enough now to do that themselves. But I have done the 5 a.m.'s just for a chance to write. Maybe some day we'll have those full days of writing. For now...we do what we can, right?

My day sounds pretty much like a clone of yours. Kind of scary how similar!

Mine is like yours though I get up at 6:00. I try to squeeze in a half hour writing before work between getting my daughter off to school & exercising, then work, more exercise and hopefully writing at lunch. I do most of my blog reading at night when I'm too tired to write if I don't have somewhere to go for my daughter. Like now.
