What Exactly is NaNoWriMo?

Happy Friday to all of you lovely bloggers out there. I must apologize for my absence the last couple of days, but what can I say...life got a little crazy and my laptop was having some issues. But all is well now and I feel horrible for not posting and getting around to all of your blogs. I promise to get there today and over the weekend!

So I've been hearing an earful about this upcoming event in November, perhaps you've heard of it? NaNoWriMo? Of course you have! Well, I just had to check it out for myself. Everyone is talking about it and even some of my favorite people are joining so it must be amazing right?

Here's what's entailed straight from the NaNoWriMo website:

•Write a 50,000-word (or longer!) novel, between November 1 and November 30.
•Start from scratch. None of your own previously written prose can be included in your NaNoWriMo draft (though outlines, character sketches, and research are all fine, as are citations from other people's works).
•Write a novel. We define a novel as a lengthy work of fiction. If you consider the book you're writing a novel, we consider it a novel too!
•Be the sole author of your novel. Apart from those citations mentioned two bullet-points up.
•Write more than one word repeated 50,000 times.
•Upload your novel for word-count validation to our site between November 25 and November 30.

And that's it. If you have more questions or to just do some research for yourself, you can visit the NaNoWriMo Website. Trust me it's worth the visit.

Though writing 50,000 words in thirty days scares the heck out of me, the idea behind it is genius. Just writing without worrying about editing as you go, not stressing over every little detail frees one up get there ideas down and allows the story to take shape.

I'm still tossing the idea around, I have some thoughts for a new novel that I've been sitting on for a while and this could be just the kick start needed to get them on paper. So what about all of you? Has anyone else signed up or debating like I am? I'd love to hear about it.

Have a great weekend everyone! I can't tell you how excited I am that it's Friday!

Hi Renae! As you already know, I'm at a conference all week so blogging hasn't happened. However, when I saw this post I had to comment.

I have signed up for NaNoWriMo. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do it, though. My question is what happens if you fail? I mean, I know no NaNo police are going to knock at my door. I was wondering professionally. Do you get like a NaNo Fail button? What do you think?

I haven't signed up because I'm already 10 000 words into my new novel, and plan to have another 10 000 finished before November. My goal is to write an additional 50 000 word during the month instead. :D

I'm thinking about doing it this time around! I never have...hmmm...

I signed up for NaNoWriMo! I will be be using this as an opportunity to get a story out that has been bouncing around in my head for a while. I am outlining it now, so I will sorta have a "guideline" to help me out come November. (I checked the rules, outlines are encouraged)

With any luck, I'll write the novel during NaNoWriMo, and then spend the next several months revising the first draft! Good luck on your story idea! =)

I am signed up ready and raring to go!! Can't wait to get started! I failed miserably last year but no matter. I will win this year! WIIIIN!!! Probably not but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

I've done NaNo twice. It's very helpful getting that first draft down.

I'm not sure if I'm going to make this year as I'm deep in Revision Land.

I think next year will be the first time I do NaNoWriMo. I'm too afraid of commitment this year :)

Happy Friday!
Nano's schedule is always off from mine so I'm not doing it this year.
If you do it, good luck!

Yikes! Nano scares me. I am a sloooww writer, and I can't force myself to write when I'm not feeling it. So, at this point, Nano is definitely not right for me.

I hope you do NaNo!!! I did it last year and loved it. Some people do it even though they know they won't make 50,000 in thirty days because of other obligations, and that's okay. It's just nice to begin a novel with the support and encouragement of others doing the same crazy thing at the same time! I can't wait for this year!

I want so bad to participate in Nano, but I`m on the final stages of editing and revising of my novel, and everything has to be perfect. Will do a NanoWrimo of my own though, when my book is finished and pretty, and ready for submission!

I'm in the same spot as Clara. I'm working on something at the moment and don't want to put it away for a whole month to do Nano. Guess I'll have to wait until next year.

I was thinking of doing a Nano type challenge on my own too Clara, maybe we can do one together so we have some support!

I was wondering where you were. lol.

You know I was pondering NaNo the other day...I signed up. Come on, join me. We can kick butt together. :)

Good luck with it! I'm just not ready for it this year, but kudos to those who do it. :)

I'll be doing NaNo this year- I have thought tumbling around as well, so we shall see how it goes. Best of luck on your word counts!

I'm not doing NaNoWriMo--I thought about it, but I'd rather put most of my attention into a current WIP.

I'm sort of doing a NaNo-ish thing. I'm gonna start my new WIP in November, but won't follow the 50k-by-end-of-month deadline. Blame grad school :(

Anywho, I have a little gift for you over at my blog, missy. Hope you like it!!!

I'm going to do it. Haven't signed up yet.

I've done NaNo the past 2 years, but haven't decided whether or not to take the plunge this year. There's just no time this year!

Do it! Do it! Do it! Even if you don't make it, what's the loss? You still have more than you started with and there's no charge. Sign up and go friend me. :D
