Q=Quiters

Have you ever felt like throwing in the towel and quitting it all? Has there ever been a time that you felt like you couldn't possibly write another word?

I have. There are those days when you have one to many let downs, or get a rejection on some requested material or even hit a rough patch in your new manuscript. Those days are tough.

So why do we stick with it? What makes writers dig deep and stay on this roller coaster of a journey?

Well for me it's simple...I just can't stop. When all is said and done, writing is my outlet. There's nothing like polishing a scene until it's exactly they way I want it. Or typing the last sentence on that manuscript I've been working so hard on.

The list goes on and on. Bottom line though, since I have started writing I have an escape. A place to go where I can control what happens.

Now it's your turn, why do you stick with the writing game? What keeps you coming back for more?

I keep writing because it's never occurred to me that I could do anything else. :)

I'm just stubborn I guess! I love words, I love imagining, I love trying to tell a story. I want to make my work the best I can, but I still have so much to learn... :-)

I like to play God :D

Really, it's a matter of control for me. I don't feel in control of a lot of things, but with writing, I can plan out every. last. detail. It's therapy. Helps me focus & keeps me kinda sane (as sane as writers can be, anyway).

Fabulous post. I write for the same reasons. I just absolutely love it. I love creating new places and people and stories and losing myself in them. It's even better than reading, because I'm the one who gets to make the whole thing up! Even when I have my "quitting" moments (and I do have them), I know I love it too much to ever quit for good.

I like writing because I have all of these characters and story lines screaming in my head and the only way to get them out is through my laptop. I also like to write because I cannot control when my kids sleep, eat or if my guy picks his dirty clothes off of the floor and puts them in the hamper, but in my own world I can control everything my characters say and do from the color of their toenail polish to the deep southern accent it is all me. I am the Governor, the mayor, the president and the queen of my world.

I've contemplated quitting during the really low times. But like you, I always come back to it because I love writing and finding the creative part of myself.
